    Default Feather or Yuba??

Both rivers are fishing well!! Right turn at the Chevron or head straight for the big fish… I used to hate the Feather due to the low number of hookups, but with a lot of help it is much more fun. Plus there is no other fish that rips line like a Feather fish.

Wow - surprised to hear that you believe a Feather fish might be hotter than a Yuba fish. Its not been my experience. I've always believed that a Yuba rainbow is as hot as they come, anywhere. It would be interesting to hear what others think. Perhaps I need to spend more time on the Feather!

The biggest and baddest ( is that a word?)
If it was up to me, hands down it would be the Zipperlip.

What's a zipperlip? I want to catch one…. Yes it is unknown where the fish on the Feather go from year to year so most may be trout, but I think they probably get out to the ocean for a little while. You won't find many fish over 24" so probably not many of the fish make it to the ocean. I know CDFW has tracked the Yuba trout and most don't go below Daguerre. If they do they are chased back up by the Stripers. Feather fish are larger on average and I don't use tippet lower than 3x. Yuba fish are selective because they see a ton of pressure.

For an update on the Yuba there is a huge caddis hatch in the evening!! Biggest caddis hatch I have ever seen. Every fish in the riffles is jumping like two feet in the air chasing caddis. Small tan ones. I am not an entomologist , but I am guessing they are glossies. I don't know how many fish I snapped off, but it was a bunch. X-caddis and x-2 caddis… get after it!!

Both are very good fisheries but very different.

Right now the Feather fish might be a little larger average size but fewer in numbers.

We are lucky to have so many Valley rivers with trout and steelhead in them.

Try to get out right now with a good local fly fishing guide unless you have it all figured out.

I find that the spring-run Feather fish are a lot more fun to fish for than the fall-run. Feather fish are a bit harder to find but once you figure out it you can have a really good time. Yuba fish are super selective but they put a ridiculous bend on your rod.

Also don't go on weekdays because that's when the river is most crowded. Thanks.
