Default Looking for someone in the South or East Bay to Teach Spey Casting

    Hi, All:

I'm just getting in to the two-handed game, and I'm looking for someone from Livermore down around to Redwood City that would be willing to give a little instruction one or two evenings a week for a couple of weeks.

I'd happily bring the beers, buy you dinner, a new line...you name it.

If you know of a solid professional instructor down here, that'd be great, too.

    Thanks,

    Steve M.

Drop by the Oakland Casting Ponds off of Carson on Hwy 13. Don't see many folks in the evenings down there. There is a fine group of spey casters on Wednesday morning until noon- read as old farts willing to provide free instruction and know how to throw some line and actually fish. They possess good communication skills as well as proper mechanics. Saturdays are also a good time to hook up with some instruction. No beer required nor meals. Only requirement is that you have the desire to learn. You can get consistent one on one instruction at no charge. Plus, you get to try out everyone's two hander. Give it a shot. They tend congregate toward the back pond at a bench on the left side just like ogers and misfits exchanging stories of their latest conquests with fish. Just know that they are approachable and they will get you started on the right foot. If you don't have a rod yet, even better. Once you get past their appearance and such, they are a bunch of well meaning guys with obsessive compulsive disorders.

    Hope this helps.

Professional two handed instructors Jeff Putnam or Doug Duncan can teach you to Spey cast on moving water (Lower American River) in Sacramento.
