    Default Mystery fish

Hola, having fun in Baja. We got into some nice doodoos today. Doug farmed a nice 40lber and Luke and I found fish all over the place. A couple of guys in my group even got some small roosters on the fly in La Vantana bay. Yesterday we went bluewater and I was hoping for a sail or a stripe. We were trolling green jacks and I took a hit. Went to set and this eruption goes off 300yds from the boat. We chased and followed for an hour, but couldn't get it to come up. Had to head in and cut the line. We figured it was either a big blue or a manta ray. Too bad I didn't get a glimpse. last day tomorrow and going for a snorkel at the island. Should be fun. Thanks Jay for all the help and for putting us onto such a wonderful fishery. I will post some pictures when I get home, Mems.

Don you are having an EPIC trip!!! Good for you buddy!

That's something that will wake you up in the middle of the night the rest of your life! I think mantas are plankton feeders aren't they? I would also think a marlin would have jumped at some point?? Maybe not?? I wouldn't rule out a big hammerhead :O

Years ago out of Loretto one of our staff, Chuck Campana, hooked a big marlin on a big conventional outfit in the afternoon.

They fought it till dark and then lost it.

The guides figured it was maybe 700#.
