I currently have a 9' 6wt rod from TFO and an Orvis mid arbor Access. I am looking to get another lighter weight rod and reel for now. Any suggestions for manufacturers of both? I will eventually get heavier weights as well, but will go lower first. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Depends. What are you fishing for and where? What is your price range? There a a lot of nice rods out there, only you can decide which action feels best to you and what kind of trimmings you are willing to pay for. If you like a slower, progressive rod a $900 Sage Method is going be worth less to you than a $100 kit rod from White River. Only you know what you like. It's hard to find a really bad rod anymore. If you are only dropping to a 5 weight, just get a different spool for your existing reel.

    8'6" #4 is a nice smaller size down from your 9' #6.

Bring your 6 weight outfit into the shop to compare and cast a bunch of lighter rods out back.

Then you need a 9' #8 for Stripers from a boat, etc.
