1750 cfs is totally wadable. I love it when the flows are up during shad season. It brings fish in and opens up a lot of places to fish for them. Fished it one year at 13k and I was the only one out. You wouldn't want to wade past your knees at that flow.

I rarely wade past my knees anyway. I discovered that, for some reason, if I'm in the flow at crotch level my cast usually collapses. When I stay at knee level I usually achieve at least 60'. Any ideas why that is happening?
I'm using a Red Truck 6126 Diesel outfit with a 450 grain skagit head.

1750 is still on the low side for the lower AR. You shoulda seen it when it was at 30,000 (not a typo) a few years back.

As to why your casts are collapsing.....could be any number of things that are not being adjusted as your wading depth changes.

If you are only getting 60' with your casts under ideal conditions there are probably other technique issues involved.

A few likely ones are that your backcast is being made to low to the water relative to its speed, possibly as a result of a low lift, and/or that you are dropping your rod tip in back (trunking). But it could be anchors, slack anywhere in the cast, the list is long. Get someone experienced to watch you cast.

Is this recent increase in CFS for a few days or is this 'normal' for the next few weeks?

OC, I don't know the reason for the increase or how long it will last. Could be water deliveries or salinity issues in the Delta. I know it's not for the fish. Hope we have done left for the salmon and steelies!

Got 9 this evening. Fished with kid named Danny who is a fishing fiend. He was using a spinning rod because his mom slammed the car door on his fly rod. He was still using a BM!
