Default First Striper on the American..well for me

Went out to poke around and hunt for the hunter. Got two blow ups and then got this little guy. Looking at section of the American and it makes me think, will stripers fight their way up a shallow riffle to move up river or just hang back? I got this fish above a shallow riffle so he either fought his way up the riffle, is a local striper or came up that last push of increased flows....thoughts???

Nice work! I think that's a newer fish, a decent school of schoolies to 10 lbs was pushing upriver a week or two ago, and they'll push through those shallow riffles under cover of darkness. That spot always holds early fish, sometimes quite a few of them.

    As FG knows...

Stripers will go whenever/wherever they want pretty much and can/will hold or move in slow, fast, shallow, deep, warm or cold water.

I C&R'ed 8 fish between 6 and 15 lbs in that vicinity a week ago but went back the next day and managed only one lil 3lb-er.

Cover the water and find the trout, there you'll find the stripers
