Default Going to Cozumel first time need help on what to bring for bone fishing

    Hi Everyone,

so my first trip to Cozumel and I'm excited. I'll be there from March 7-15 and looking to hook my first bone fish. The question is there any public places I can wade the flat or is just better to hire a guide. Second, should I bring my own rod and reel or use the guide if I go that route. Third I'll definitely will be deep fishing with a charter for sailfish. Any info will greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben

    Take a 9' #8 in 4 piece for travel.

    WF8F with 10' #10 Rio Bonefish leader.

Size 6 Crazy Charlies in tan, white and pink.

Get a guide with a skiff for a half day in the morning from the ferry dock area.

Lagoons are on the north end of the island and so far they are not accessible by car.

If it is cold and windy just go sight seeing.

If it is calm and warm, go fishing.

I used this guy when my wife and I traveled to Cozumel on our honeymoon- http://bonefishcozumel.com/flatsflyfishing.html. Looking at the guides tab it looks like the father is no longer guiding but Nacho Jr. was well versed in the sport. This is where both my wife and I caught our first bonefish. You definitely want to bring your own gear. Also flies will little to no weight was the ticket. Its about a 30 minute run on the boat to the Northern lagoons. I even had a couple shots at permit as well.

I've fished with Bonefish Cozumel too. Not my favorite bonefish guide service, but not sure you have much choice. All the above advice is spot on as usual.
