Release Indicator?????

I was looking for a indicator to fish deep water 20+ ft.., that would release when you hook a fish, so you could land the fish in a net from a float tube....i would welcome and feed back.....i'm clueless

You might check with the shop to see if they carry them, but I know you can find the releasable indicators on ebay and through idahofly.com if Fishwest doesn't stock them.

Check out a French coil indicator. They are easy to make and can be wound through guides.

This is the slip bobber I used last year at Lake Davis for deep water presentations and I'm quite pleased with it.

These are what I use.

Now I found a similar product at Sportsman's but the foam is split so you'll have to glue the gap or put a band around the foam to keep it from getting away when released.

I saw a video for a "trapped air" indicator that has a split-stud top with a locknut for ease of adjustment and no-kink fixture. Do you have these?

Dumb newbie question #248: Do you cast with a set up like this? Or do you literally just drop your line right under your boat/float tube?

Casting takes some technique. Big open loops and lobs. Long rods help.

Several years ago, I found some from "The Fly Desk" located in Utah.
Google them. They sell packs of 5 for $3.50; 1/2 doz sizes from reasonable
to scary big! Basically, styrofoam body with hole in center and a plastic plug.
You place a small loop of leader pinched between the body and plug.
When a fish strikes and you lift, the loop is released and you reel in;
The indicator should slide freely. The trick is to have the friction between the body
and the plug just right. Too tight and no release (have to do it by hand, then);
too loose and it might release when casting or when experiencing a "drive-by."
Casting can be a challenge having a 15 - 20 feet of leader below the indicator. I always
figured that this made for more fun on the water, though.
