    Default Spey fly inspired

Had fun messing around with some spey flies last night, and came up with this little guy. Hope some steelhead likes it.

    Nice.....

I asked one of my main fly fishing mentors, Al Perryman, what flies he uses on the Rogue River for fall steelhead, where he lives.

He said they we mostly dark, size #4/6 classic winged Steelhead patterns.

I asked, What is your favorite?

He said they are all similar but I tie each one a little different.

That is the fun of tying your own.

looks like a nice low water killer Jason, I like it a lot. A critique if you dont mind, your JC is tied in at the middle of your head, looks like you were trying to make it all the way to the eye with your thread. Just stop short as you know and that will leave you a nice bare spot for hitching. really like your colors though, should turn a head!

Thanks for the critique Rippin. I'm always happy to hear suggestions and pointers Yeah, I had a few "issues" going on at the end there. I wasn't happy with the finish on this one, but when I tied 2 subsequent ones to try and clean things up a bit I just could not seem to get the bronze mallard underwing and the wood duck, and the JC to all sit still and play nice together. This was my best ... so far, anyways. Mostly I just really like the way that the JC and the wood duck look together, I'll have to play around some more with them.
