Default Winter is here.......what will you be doing?

Some die hards will fish in Nor Cal all winter.....yikes.

Trout in low elevation lakes is one possibility, especially with winter trout planting locally.

the Delta for Stripers is another choice, with guys like Jim Christensen out there poking around.

Winter Steelhead is getting more popular again with the rising popularity of the two handed fly rod.

Some will go south to the tropics for Bonefish.

Some will go to the jungles of South American for Peacock Bass and freshwater Golden Dorado.

Other will go far south to Argentina, Chile or New Zealand for big trout during their summer.

Others will be tying flies all winter in the warmth of their little feather and fur hide out.

Some of us diehards in Alaska will head south. I am headed to Louisiana in a few days for redfish. A friend is headed to Christmas Island. However, if we get a sunny day in the low 30s or high 20s some of us head to the Kenai River. It can be a nasty drive through the mountains in the dark and this time of year we only get 5 hours max of fishing. But we get out of the house and sometimes even catch a trout. I prefer to go in late Jan and Feb when we start getting more light but it can be pretty cold then. Pretty cold means single digits and sometimes those digits have a minus sign in front of them. When that happens we stay home.

I'd hope you stay home! Otherwise you might be losing some digits Good for you to head south and get some fishing in! Good luck and safe travels!

I think I'll go stand on a ladder with snow pelting me in the face at 20 mph. Or I could go visit all my Sac buddies and chase steelhead. All the lake around me are starting to freeze up so the tubes are getting put away for the season.

As far as I'm concerned, fishing season is just getting started.

Funny, some people are in our shop weekly, year round and others come by once or twice a year.

We have a group of customers who have never had a CA fishing license but go for two weeks every year to Montana.

Lots of different profiles of fly fishers.

Some only fish streams for trout and others only fish lakes for trout.

This is good or we would all be at the same places all the time.
