Snuck out for a couple of hours to look for stripers. Tossed some topwater flies for a bit with no takes so I fished deep and got rewarded with a few dinks to start. Then got solid grab from a fiesty and chunky 5-lber followed by a 3-lber. The tide was still coming in and still early in the morning, so switched back to fishing on top.
Drifted with the tide and got a few smaller stripes to swirl on the fly but no hook-ups.
Lots of Delta wildlife out and about: ducks, otters, beavers, egrets...
Very fishy looking water right under this guy:
Casted the bobber fly right up against the bank. Stripped the fly 4-5 times....nice, soft left-right glides while spitting water......only to be interrupted by a huge toilet bowl flush explosion. Chunky 4-lb bucketmouth. The egret didn't even flinch and just stayed put the whole time. Pretty wild:
Not the targeted species but will take it any day.
