Yep Gregg, that is a nobel gesture you did here. What a guy! Oh yeah Youre from Wisconsin

Just a question, what does anyone have to gain from this kind of hack. Is it just a shock-value move just to say "I can do it" ?

What an incredible, waste of time, effort and money! I think those who attack sites in this manner among the lowest level miscreant terrorist.

Part of it is the "I can do it", but they also used an exploit and uploaded many gigabytes of Porn and made the server unusable. We had a lot of connections downloading. All of this was identified and deleted within a day or two. At least this made their efforts fairly meaningless because they were not able to benefit for very long.

Most of these hackers are what are called "Script Kiddies". They just run scripts that are written by a few others and then call themselves hackers and think they are clever and important. I could teach anyone how to do this in about 2-5 minutes. Doesn't really take any skill at all, just an opportunity and being in the right place at the right time (in-between software updates).

Greg, can you burn that porn to a disc and pass it forward to me for "investigation" purposes. just kidding

A lot of times it is just for the fun factor when they hack, but it is at the same time a way for them to practice their skills and further their expertise.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I know why this is in error, but it's not the hackers. I am 99% sure they are gone. It's because the title has a ( or an ) in it and it shows up in the URL when you click the post. I put in some code that disallows these characters in URLs because they can be used for scripting. I will probably remove this. For now, on a post, you can take this out and just show the numbers. For example:

Use this link for Gene's Post:
    http://www.kiene.com/forums/showthread.php?31400
    instead of this:
    http://www.kiene.com/forums/showthre...(wild-weather)

Basically all you need are the numbers after the question mark showthread.php?31400
This applies to any of our threads.
