Default TCX help please.....I cant hold out much longer

I havent bought a rod in a while and i have the itch bad. I have a online gift certificate that will cover discounted tcx switch. I fish mostly california rivers for steelhead. I have been fishing a 5126-4 z- axis. Any thoughts? Does anyone now if the 5119-4 will cast similar lines and fly sizes? Thanks for your time.

The TCX is a much faster rod. So it can be used with waiver lines. I have the #6 and #7 switch rods and have fished the #5. Will say that the #6 will be a real good rod for summer steelhead and even shad if you fish for shad.

Landed fish to 10 pounds without issue on the 5119.

With these long rods it is more about purpose and fly size than rod--with the 5119 you would never be outgunned on steelhead.

I throw dry line and t-8 on mine 5119. Can keep it together with a dry line out to about 70'.

I have a Vxp 6129 for t-11 on a flight and have thrown t-14 on a skagit short, throwing a small chicken. With a lighter fly and t-11 that'll go out to 85ish. Better guys than me (like some of the best in the world) have casted my Vxp out to 100' accurately

It's all about fly size, length of cast and tips for rods. Fish fighting is not the reason to get a bigger stick than a 5119, unless you are going to Bella Coola.

Wellvrod size does matter for fish size in my experience . Last week i got five kings to almost 35#+ i was using a 7136 550iflight and t20 ....i was spooled by the big boy of the day .. could not stop it

Last winter i had issues controling a 15 to20# steelhead . Aron video the fight ....i wish i had my 7wt .spey also with the salmon last week i wish i had an 8 or 9 wt spey

I like lighter rods than usually recommended

Just another opinion for your consideration

I have all of the TCX switch rods. If you are targeting adult SH, I would get the 7119.

+1 if the op is going for adult SH. And I still stand by #6 for summer and fall SH. Never know when the big boy comes by and you end up being under gunned.

And yes like David said I do have a video of him fighting a big SH and he could no pull in nothing because the fish was just to big for a One 6124.

The Sage 5119-4 Switch rod (11' 9" # 5 line) is the fastest and most powerful 5 weight Switch I have seen so far.

It would be fine for the lighter fall Steelhead fishing like on the Klamath River.

With the smaller line size you are mostly limited in the size flies you through.

You can land most anything on it up to a 10 pounder.
