Default Going out for summer Stripers on the Lower American River

Joe Shirshac, Andy Guibord and I are launching my jet boat at Howe Avenue this morning to see if we can't scare some Stripers.

We had a great day out there......what a beautiful river.

We fished pretty hard from 7am till 1pm.

We fished from Watt Ave down to State College.

We saw schools of fish a few inches long wildly eating Tricos on the surface.....Andy said they were tiny Shad.

Saw several Otters and flocks of Megansers.

    Large fish were ocassionally rolling.

After al lot of casting we came into a school of stripers along a rip rap wall.

Joe and Andy both had on double digit Stripers today but came unbuttoned.

Hooked four Stripers and landed 2 which were the smallest.

Finally Andy said he saw a large salmon chase after his striper streamer.

Then he hooked a very large powerful fish.

It was a big fresh King salmon on a striper fly.

The fight was epic with it running under the boat several times.

Finally Andy opped to get out of the boat and beach it.

I had a pair of large bright salmon come up from the deep to look at my fly as it reached the surface.

We let all the fish go......

We have had a very big salmon run in the ocean this summer so some are guessing we might have a big fall run (October) of King salmon in the Lower American River.
