    Default Santa Cruz Area

Anybody have any ground breaking ideas/info as it relates to the Santa Cruz area. We are leaving tomorrow for 10 nights @ La Selve beach. I have a 7 wgt and 9 wgt ready to go. Have read the last Northwest mag as it relates to reading beaches etc. I am targeting perch and stripers in a perfect world. Any words of advice?

    Thanks-

Scout the beaches at low tide (its negative right now), look for structure, fish at least two flies at a time(orange for perch/hot pod& qs beach bug are nice), try not to hook tourists (or do, either way really), prepare for a skunk, beer, wash and repeat as necessary.

    Question Santa Cruz Surf....

Good advice by DV8. General info (flies, etc.) available from some websites that're still up but no longer current. Check 'em out:

    http://www.mbflyfishing.com/flies.html

    http://www.zenflyfishing.com/

On the latter website os a link to the coastal project. This provides aerial photo's of the entire CA coastline. Easily used.

A good source of info is Loren Elliott. He guides in the summers in that area, has a website (can't recall the URL) and is very knowledgeable about Stripers.

If you can locate Mark Won, he's, also, a very good source of info, etc.

    Good luck and stay safe....

I don't know if your interested. But Lance Gray & Company will be having another Surf Tour soon. We are waiting on our permits from the California Park Service. Every guide needs a permit to do anything on the beaches now.

We hope to have it done by now - but like all things goverment work is a little slower.

Great advice on all the above postings. My favorite fly is a mole crab pattern size 6. I like fishing a standard clouser or half & half in front of it. White /Chart is a great color.

For more info on the tours go to our website and take a look at them
