    Default What about the wind?

As Joe Kimsey used to say "wind a blowin, fish aint bitin".

Andy Guibord said that the best day of top water LMB in the Delta was with no wind at all.

I guess anglers feel certain directions of wind are not good.

Maybe the north wind is bad?

The wind blows a lot in the spring.

At Lawson's Landing over on the Pacific coast they say the ocean lays down after 4th of July, on average.

Fished this evening on a local farm lake....wind blew pretty good. Seven bass to hand on a popper. Never mind the wind, just go fishing.

    Bill, great topic!

I Love the wind. I feel it makes the fish much more comfortable and if they cant see you they are not as spooky more willing to come in closer and make more mistakes.

Wind direction around/below points creating scum lines and feeding lanes, flushing up the bottom to get fish active in stillwaters is a great opportunity and I always look forward to the first two hours after a good wind starts up.

    I love the wind!
I do love me some "Stillwater" fly fishing....Ernie

    Good feedback....

I know that wind can get things going too.

With no wind fish can get spooky.

I had an incredible day at Lake Siskiyou fishing for smallies w/ poppers. Whitecaps made casting impossible, The boat was drifting fast and I had my flyline out and was popping the popper while drifting at trolling speed. Besides getting a couple of big smallies, I hammered a half a dozen 16" - 20" rainbows. Rainbows on bass poppers? Go figure! Bottom line if you go fishing, keep your line wet.

My best day of fishing on the delta was on 20+ mph winds. I caught my biggest shad last year when we had those 20+ winds with those occasional 30 mph gusts.

Wind sucks, but I have done real good on windy days. It has a lot more to do with all the other factors combined to make a day good or bad, not just wind.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

    Jay Fair taught me this one;

Wind from the north - don't even go forth.
Wind from the east - not fit for man nor beast.
Wind from the south - blows the bait() right into the fishes mouth.
Wind from the west - fishing is best.

I like a little bit of chop on the water while fishing lakes. Too much wind is miserable. White caps and big 'ol rollers are no fun in a float tube.

    Or maybe "overblown"?

At Pyramid wind, especially in the right direction, makes all the difference!
