Got my first dSLR in early November and these are some of the first batch of pics I took with my D3100

All pics were taken at the Cosumnes River Preserve or Effie Yeaw Nature Center... and sorry in advance if the pics are too big

Those are wonderful! Looks like an excellent place to photogragh. What a fantastic buck and the flying harrier is very nice. Also pic #4 is a ruby crowned kinglet. Very fast moving dificult target. Well done!

That D3100 is a lot of camera for the price.

Yeah, the Ruby Crowned Kinglet took me a month to identify after I took this picture back in late November... took me three trips to get one to sit still long enough for me to snap not just this photo, but two others as well

Those little kinglets are cool. It took me a while to ID them too. The females really threw me. The males will stand their red crown up during courting. Its just brilliant red! Keep up the good work and I agree with Larry, that is more moody in b&w.

Just curious....what size lens were you using. Some of those look like you were within 15 feet of the subject!

Used a 55-200mm for all except the praying mantis (18-55mm). Some seem close because at one of the places I go the deer are not shy at all, they'll let you get within 20-30 feet
