We went out early this a.m. for some steel for the first time this year. Morning temps were freezing, as where our guides, but eventually the sun came out and started to warm us up. Hooked up to a nice adult fish that leaped 3 times, but I was only hooked up to him on the first leap. He broke me off, took both flies and my indicator. I had only been fishing 10 minuets. We fished downstream a bit to try some fresh water, but I decided to go back up to where I started. On my 3rd cast, my indicator dove under and I was hooked up to a nice hatchery fish. This was my best steelhead ever. He measured 30", but was not a pig, but I had a nice fight on my 6 Wt. Z Axis. Jamie netted the fish after a nice fight and I can now say on got a long time steelie skunk off my back. We kept the fish in the net in the water except a few quick pics. A nice day on the American.
