Default Joe Melendres was on the Trinity River for the CFFU outting....

.........on the weekend of November 11/12, 2012.

He did indicator fish for several days with the CFFU group and said it was tough, catching about 6 smaller fish with the indicator/nymphing system.

Then he had a day or two with Spey guide Jason Hartwick where he swung flies on his #7 Spey rod, catching 6 fish that were all nice larger adults.

We told him that was not the norm, as indo fishing is uslually more effective for numbers of steelhead on the Trinity River compared to swinging.

There are situations at some locations where swinging flies is more effective though.

I would say, all but the top of the Klamath River above Interstate 5 and at the mouth of a tributary like Blue Creek, swinging flies is the way to go for big open water with active smaller fish in the fall.
