Default 9/21-23 So Cal Island Fly Fishing Report

Just wanted to share another fishing report from a trip I recently made looking for Calico Bass down south in So Cal. Great fishery, and good times on the water.

Default First Hatch Report Baha day 3

    Baha day 3 -
Overcast - Calm- Decent inshore bite in the morning. All boats went looking for Dorado. Two found good, with great at times, catching of Dodos to 15# . We all had shots at decent fish but they were a bit finicky. We ended the day with some nice inshore action with Ladyfish, Green Jacks, Pompano, Toro and the a few Graysby. Had one angler too sick to fish this morning and I had to extract a Crease Fly from another's arm. It went half way through and had to be helped along with some pliers, before pulling out, but he handled it well. Finished the evening fishing the beach in La Ventana. Two of us caught several species in a light rain and had a blast.
    All is well

Thanks Ken and Scott for the good words on the post. It was awesome fishing those islands....good times for sure....Scott sorry buddy...I don't think my little 16 ft whaler will make it out to Santa Barbara Island....if you do come down we can chase the calicos on the long beach breakwall...not as picturesque but it definitely holds some fish....I think Ken can account to that.....the LB Wall is probably one of the best consistent calico spot for us....lots of big and active fish....

As for the Ranger....that boat is super fast....quite a machine with a 250 hp mercury verado on the back....it belongs to my buddy Dave....it is the 22 ft model....not quite as comfortable going through swell as a bigger V style of boat but it makes up for that as a casting and fishing platform....lots of room....

Adam, I'll be down south in January as always. Plan to fish the Fliflicker fishout if it is happening again and possibly try and get you to take me to the wall on a day before or afterwards.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!
