Thanks for sharing this link Bill. It immediatley brought back great memories of learning to fish in wooden/canvas boat that was in my grandfathers 2 boat boathouse on Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey. The boat had a 3 1/2 HP Johnson Seahorse motor. The beauty of the wooden frame and the streched canvas, the lightness, the quietness, the joy of learning to fish out of it.
It shared the boathouse with the early 50's Chris Craft barrelback speedboat that I learned to waterski behind.
Amazing what a video that shows love in what you do can do to someone.
I want another wooden boat before I die.
Rockman
I learned to canoe in an old towne wood and canvas that belonged (probably still belongs) to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Physics department (my dad taught there).
I loved that canoe but at 144 pounds, portaging it was a bitch. My dad and I got our own kevlar canoes that were still pretty sweet but half the weight.
I loves me some canoes.
Beautiful! Being a carpenter as an avocation I can really appreciate this artful experience. I have a boat, once made in Mendocino called Navarro, which has a fiberglass skin over the steam bent cherry ribs. I love that boat. Holy cow! I did a web search and find they are still being made in Illinois! http://www.navarrocanoe.com/
