Default Headed to Bodega, Can I fish the surf???

Im headed to Bodega Bay with my daughter and Dad. I may have the opportunity to run down to the surf for an hour or so on my own and try to hook into a fish in the surf. Is it worth a try? What type of fly would have a decent chance at attracting a fish? Any tips are welcome as I will be trying to figure out this surf fishing in the future as my daughter gets older and wants to spend more time on the coast.

    Thank You Gentlemen

    Cast,
Why not give it a shot? If you're fishing the bay, I would suspect a floating line
and some clouser-type flies would produce. Out in the surf, I would opt for a sink-tip
line, stripping basket, if you have one, and some colorful flies - say size 6. Surf perch
like those bright flies. Move up and down the beach looking for changes - depth,
    current, etc. Stay safe.

    Cast,
Should add that the MLPA closures might cover some of those waters. Better check. This seems to be
the "X factor" in planning a fishing trip to our coast, nowadays.
