Default Dry fly heaven in the US?

    Hey guys,

A while back there was a video floating around with that title, it was the Elk River up in Canada.

I'm planning to drive up there but the timing is looking a little dicey, it's good up there starting around the end of July and that's when I was going to head back home.

So, I'm looking for suggestions on where to go to have fun with dry flies in the good old old US of A.

    Things I like

    - water I can wade (I must be weird, floating in a boat feels like it is cheating; give me a few years, I'll get there

    - dry fly fishing (I rarely do wet, I like seeing the fish come up)

    - lots of fish, don't need to be huge, 14-18" is just fine with me

    - not a lot of people (headed towards grumpy old man status)

Any suggestions? Anywhere within ~1000 miles of San Jose, CA.

Honestly, the fish are a lot smaller than you're talking about, but I just use a smaller rod?

I just went up to the sierras mid last week and caught a bunch of fish in 2 hours of fishing, all with a single dry fly setup.

Any of the small sierra streams have a ton of really willing trout.

Yup, I know, I've fished lots of sierra streams. I'm taking a bunch of time off to soak in what I hope will be a memorable trip, looking for a little bigger fish.

Except for the numbers of people (but you can find solitude while you're fishing), the Owyhee River in eastern Oregon pretty well fits your bill. PM me if you want more info.

North Fork of the Blackfoot...maybe a little more than 1000 miles.

One of my favorite places I've ever fished.
