    ...isnt the M4 a little small for 8wt spey lines?

    The M4 will hold any fish you can catch. Wide arbor stores plenty backing and the design gives the reel the punch to hold larger fish. Most reels will not have the mechanics to allow for quick starts, but Bauer's MLS are the best I know off.
    I have been comfortable w' the M4 and have been effective w' the drag system.

    Bauer was the first to offer wide reels in 1995. The lifetime warrenty means that these reels hold up over time.
