Default Night of the Squid - NFF

Not part of the Cousteau video. Shot off La Jolla Shores. Truly a "Danse Macabre."

This goes on for a week or so each year. Boats are out there all night long.

    Thumbs up Squiddies....

Larry,.... Thanks for the link. Squid are very interesting. Everytime I see one of these videos or a photo of them, I learn a bit more to use in developing a good Squid pattern for La Ventana....

    Default squid

    Darian:
I've read where a main staple for steelhead in the ocean are the smallish size squid.
Quite a few spey flies are designed with this in mind.
The truly amazing ones are the Humboldt squid getting up to nearly 6-feet long.
Have seen reports of them terrorizing divers off of Baja.
    Best of Holidays to you.

    Default Humboldts....

Yep!!! The panga captains really are careful when handling Humboldt Squid. Even a small one can cut your hand/wrist. The tentacles have a crusty edge to them that can really scrape you.

The first word that comes to mind is "Yummy!!"

I went to High school in Newport Beach. As a senior I took a marine biology class. The best highschool class ever! Mr. Burge. One day we disected squid. 1/2 way thru the class he whips out a couple electric grills, garlic, onions and butter. And the senior, marine biology class enjoyed calamari that day Good times......Good times!

    Thanks For the video Larry!

    Default squid pro quo

    jbird:
As delicious as calamari is, probably one of the world's worst smells is a dead squid.
A few years ago, we had a number of squid washing ashore from Scripps to south
Torrey (San Diego.) Whew! If you've ever used them as bait, you can relate.
    Hey, I'm a poet!
