Thread: Burr on bobbin

  1. #1

    Default Burr on bobbin

I have a bunch of older Matarelli bobbins; they are superb, in my opinion. The bobbin tubes are slender and highly polished. One of them has apparently developed a burr somewhere on the tube (either at the bottom or top, not sure). It frays the thread, which makes things difficult.

I've heard of a few solutions, including running a piece of kevlar thread through it under tension, but that has another set of problems. Anyone have a suggestion on this?

You can try some heavy A rod wrapping thread and jeweler's polishing compound.

Very tightly roll up a piece of sandpaper and start working at it, probably start with 220 and go down to 4 something, then polish with a metal polish. It cured my problem with thread fraying.
