I'm not sure how the parrots got here, but they are definitely breeding. There is a huge flock of hundreds of parrots that make such a racket when they are flying by.

About 20 years ago, my wife and I were visiting her aunt and uncle in San Pedro, heard a lot of noise in the eucalyptus tree in the back yard with a dozen or so scarlet macaws. The uncle said that they came around every 4 or 5 months or so and the numbers were getting more and more all the time.

Did a little research and have found that there are six species of Amazon parrots found in California. (Red-crowned, Lilac-crowned, Red-lored, Blue-fronted, Yellow-headed, White-fronted, Hybrids)

The ones I thought were parrots are actually Mitred Parakeets. There are also Red-masked, Blue-crowned. There are a quite a few other species, the Black-hooded, Yellow-chevroned, White-winged and Rose-ringed, that's a whole lot of cool looking birds.

From the information I found, there are thousands of parrots and parakeets throughout California, some as far north as San Francisco.

I used to live in Santa Ana, and we're one of the cities that has flocks of wild parrots. They are amazing.

I lived in South Pasadena and some of the flocks are more than 50 birds... they love to hang out at the Trader Joe's ..... there is also a smaller flock of white parrots in Alhambra which are amazing as well!

Default Wild Parrots in San Diego

We have same here in Point Loma. The flock lives and nests over the hill in Ocean Beach, they nest in palm trees, once it warms up they'll be back in our neighborhood....this shot was taken from my bedroom window....
