    Default A new specie caught

I packed into a well-known wilderness area this last Saturday with my tube in tow in order to catch a lake trout. The hike wasn't too bad, neither were the skeeters, and I had a line in the water by mid-morning. A whole lot of nothing for about two hours, until I finally got a grab on a black and white clouser and reeled in (no fight, really) a 16" lake trout. Nice! A new one on my list of salmonids. Thanks for the tips and advice, Ned!

    Cheers!

    Good going FG Dave.....

I like to catch new and different fish.

I can tell you that not that many fly fishers have caught a Lake Trout or Mackinaw on a fly.

I think it is in the char family?

I've been chasing exotic salmonids for a few years, all of 'em caught on a fly, and the lake trout has been on my radar for quite a while. Yes, they are part of the salvelinus family, which includes brook and bull trout, plus dolly varden and arctic char.
