Default Float Tube Friendly Delta Locations?

Not an attempt to ease out secret spots, but what areas, particularly in the North Delta, are safe for float tubing--and where are some economical and safe launch spots in speed limited waters? I assume Delta Meadows SRA would be on the list? Thanks!

    Default A Couple of spots...

...would be Beaver Slough off of Blossom Road (between Peltier Rd. and Walnut Grove Rd. west of I-5) The hard part there is findin' a place to park. Also off of Walnut Grove Rd just west of Blossom Rd there's an access and parking for one of the "Borrow Pits" (from the construction of I-5)that has some Bass & Pan fish.

Same thing off of Guard Rd. (north of Hiway 12, West of I-5)) ... Further west on Hiway 12 is Westgate Landing Park (not a large area to fish, but safe and a chance at stripers)

Telephone Cut, west of I-5 on Eight Mile Rd. (turn right on the levee Rd. at Eight Mile Rd & Bishop Cut.)

From Brannan Island State Park or off of Hiway160 turn south on Brannon Island Rd. and where it crosses Sevenmile Slough you can fish from there to the mouth at 3 Mile Slough with a good chance there for a decent striper. Another would be to continue on south to Owl Harbor or Bruno's and fish Sevenmile out to the San Joaquin River...

That oughta' be enough to get you started!
    Good Catchin'

Thanks, Capt. Mike, and nice pics in Costello's book! You and Kev are the kings of the Delta.

I guess Westgate is the place over Guard Rd. which I read is was not safe and cars were broken in to. This seems to be a concern everywhere, some places worse than others. Are there fish in the borrow ponds?

The Scadden Renegade is on order so I'm looking forward to a float real soon.

    John,
Westgate Landing is a County Park (Pretty safe..People around.)
    See Here:
    http://www.mgzoo.com/parks/westgate-landing-park.htm

    Here's a pic..

Although I've never had any problems with leaving my truck parked at the North Guard Road spot..It's been quite a few years ago (a lot of years in fact!) It is out there by itself, so maybe problematic now in the age of tweakers, I don't know??

    Here's a pic..

The Walnut Grove Rd. spot has a few farm houses around I wouldn't think that there would be any problems during the Day..
    ....

Yes there are Largemouth and various members of the Sunfish family in the Barrow Pits..I've never caught any stripers though..
All the other spots I talked about should not have any issues.

That Scadden Renegade is nice but to big for me..I just bought the little Outlaw Escape awhile back and I like it...The oars can decrease your travel time and increase distance compared to fins! Have fun with your Renegade!

Fantastic information and maps. Not everyone would be so generous. Thanks, Capt. Mike!
