Hiking to the velmas in 2 weeks. Looking for advice. Visited other areas in the deso and have been amazed by the fishing and scenery. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Short hike, good scenery. Best fishing is probably in middle velma. Browns, brookies, rainbows. Lots of people.
Just fished at the Velma's a couple of weeks ago. We did pretty well (brookies up to about 18" or so) just below Upper Velma, which I've never heard a name for (lower upper Velma?). Some pretty good sized fish, but pretty much no fight in them; they all seemed to sort of just let you drag them back in and then flop around a bit until you get the hook out and let em loose. Didn't have any love at all at middle or upper, but middle had a lot of people on the south side and so we only fished the north side (not sure if that makes any difference or not). Had some fun in the creek that runs from upper down to lower velma fishing for mostly little brookies.
Definitely pretty, and yep there will probably be lots of folks there enjoying it with you. Good luck
