Bill----Agreed,...minimally. There are some obscure waters up here in Truckee basin that are finally in optimum fly fishing shape. Normally we're fishing these waters in early May. Water we got!

I agree July is pretty much toast as we watch melting snow run to the ocean. Float tube and lake time is my focus cuz stream fishing is a good way to die. August will hopefully bring us better conditions for hitting our favorite streams. I hope.........

Made it out the weekend before last to my favorite little secret stream and it was incredible. Water was still a little high (at about 100cfs, usually 30 cfs this time of year, water temps 60 - 63, usually 65-70 this time of year). Unbelieveable fishing couldn't get out of my first favorite pair of holes for over an hour. Had about 15 fish to hand, missed easily that many, all dry fly (stimmy's - yellow - #12 - 14).

All and all fished for about 4.5 hours, got about 30 - 40 fish to hand, missed easily that many. Fish ranging from 5" - 14", averaging 10" - 12". Missed all the really niced size fish, probably missed 5 fish that were 15" - 17" (which is big for this creek), being lazy from all the action I was getting. Overall a great day.

Unfortunately I'd being posting pics instead of just writing about it but I dropped my camera in the drink on the first hole, power was on and it fried the bad boy. Not a water camera and the warranty ran out 3 months ago, oh well got 4 years and 3 months of good use and can't believe it never went in the water before this. Hopefully a couple of the pics I took will turn out, unfortunately was trying to take the first fish pic of the day. If I can access the pics and anything turns out, I'll post up.

Last nights rain sped up the run off for a few. The Truckee spiked up to 3,100 in the canyon, roughly 5-6 times normal flows. The shorter running creeks are starting to shape up though at least. August and especially September should be awesome this year. With all the grass were gonna have, this might be a really good hopper year up here in late summer/fall.

Guide Bill Carnazzo said the Upper Sac is pretty good now but should be very good in two weeks.

I am soooo glad for this year's precip pattern, from a purely selfish perspective. Wife and kids gone to in-laws for two weeks July 12-26. 3.5 day weekends from working summer school. I am going fishing the afternoon of the 14th to the night of the 17th, and I think I am gonna hit the Sierra fishing right in the gut.

Also going fishing the 22-24, but in the ocean, off a boat and with a spear.

Couldn't get luckier with the timing.
