It has been an OUTSTANDING WINTER of great numbers of big fish over 10+ lbs with fish into 15+ pounds and more. Best we have seen in many years.
More of the same fishing and Spring has Finally Sprung!... Some decent warmer weather without the raging winds we have been experiencing the last few weeks has finally arrived and the lake has been on FIRE. It has been a cold wet windy late winter/spring with huge runoff and that will continue but it looks like warmer temps are going to be the norm from here on out.
I just got home from fishing the lake sat/sun, sun up to sun down. Wide open bite sat evening for 2.5-3 hours. I headed out to catch a BBQ Shindig and some diving but got dragged out in the boat and am happy I motivated and my bros dragged me out there for some fishing too. Wanted to do a few dives but that will have to wait till the fishing slows down or the season ends. Had a nice Tri-tip BBQ with all the fixins and deep fried turkey Sat nite after a wide open bite sat am and evening, Sun was more of the same. To get the day rollin Sun am I kicked out some Taylor Ham/Pork Roll, Egg and cheese on a poppy seed kaiser hard roll and black coffee, Breakfast of Champions. Nothing better than a keg of heineken and deep fried turkey after an epic day of fishing and some taylor Ham bf sammy to start the next day.

Also Nice to be able to kick back sucking down beers @ the fire pit @ 11-12 @ nite and not freeze.
Weather conditions were perfect with light to moderate winds on and off throughout the day. The weather has finally turned for the better and has kicked the lake into spring conditions. The bugs have finally started to get active and we have found more and more scattered dragon fly activity around the lake in various spots and midges with a few damsels swimming. The weed beds have been slow to start but are also starting to sprout nicely. Plenty of bait scattered all over the pinnacles, rock piles and weed/moss beds. Bait has been at various depths 3-30 as they get into their spawn. This spring/summer will be a great year to kick up the bait population a few notches. Prey fish tui/cui-ui/perch will have a great spawn with all the new water pouring into the lake.
Overall it is what you could expect for early late april earlymay but here we are getting into june. The sierra stillwaters are a month+ or more behind so take advantage of Pyramid. Pyramid will fish good to epic from here on out till the closer.
As far as our fishing we landed fish from 19" to 9 pounds with MANY fish in the 6/7 pound class. Usually when we find large schools we get into 3/4/5 pound fish in big numbers. It was a real treat to score some larger fish on the 4wt. No hogs but this time of year I am happy with epic numbers of fish for the 4wt/floater/minnow. You can't beat fish 6-9lbs on a 4wt. We had five rods hooked up 2 adults and 3 kids on the Bobber/Dragon at times. For the most part We are doing the same ole same ole as where and how we are fishing. I'd say about 25% of our fish were caught in water within casting distance of shore and your boat/tube/pontoon/kayak will get you into the rest of the strike zone. Plenty of fish cruising the shallows for folks wanting to wade or fish from a ladder, you just have to learn the lake and figure out where to go. 3-30 feet depths of water as has been for the last few months or so has held fish on and off throughout the day. The bulk of our fish were caught in water 15/20 with SA uniform sink lines type 4 on 6wt rods and weighted minnows and floater/bobber dragon rig for the kids. Fish the rock piles and pinnacles as they have been magnets for bait and cutts. Flats have been good too but you have to time it just right. Fish are up and down the ledges throughout the day moving in and out deep to shallow. AM and late evening has been best but we have found great fishing mid day too on and off. We have been finding tons of fish at various spots along the west shore down to the southern end. The fish are stacking up, schooling up and staging in big numbers on various spots along the southern west side down the southern end over to dago bay. All that fresh new water flowing into the lake has them podding up for a swim up the river. They will continue to be moving all over the area as they have been for the last many weeks. Look for structure holding fish. Get out on the rock piles and fish the shallow water weed beds AM and pm. Keep moving until you find fish. The fish are moving and you need to move with them. IF you know the lake and spring cutts and where to look you can do good to epic.
Enjoy!
It will go off till the closer.
