    Default Truckee river - June

It's summer! Grass hoppers showed yesterday.
The big melt is on......Had to seek shade walking in waders.
Get waders wet, then jump from shade to shade. Be sure to drink lots of water too. Bring sun block!
I would say it's wet wading time, except, the water is very chilly.
    Water temp is 45-47+-..
We are nearing the peak melt and it should get better looking from here on out.
A cool night last night, flows were down a little and a beautiful deep green this morning.

Seeing a wide range of bugs.
A blizzard of bugs most evenings.
It's bling season! Any food offering can have a little extra flash, color, or both.
Next to the flashy stuff, drift something more muted.
    Midges abound..think WDs sz 20.
    Baetis nymphs, dark sz 20.
Very few noses now, but soon.
Pumpkin hued swimmer mays, sz 20.
Micro caddis flying a bit in the PM, and a few PMDs too.
March browns are still popping, try a Bird's nest in tan, sz14.
A few more green rock worms all the time. Andy's bottom rollers, in green, might work.
Green Drake adults are down by the NV line, heading up stream a couple miles or so every week. Nymphs up by Truckee.
Many little yellow sally nymphs in the net. Starting to see a few HBI nymphs too.
Large Golden stone nymphs, sz 4-6 up near shore (Very dark backs.), any day now...
Flying Carpenter ants showed up this week. Cool temps have put them back on hold.
In these flows I recommend drowning them. Seriously! At higher flows they don't float long.
Had a friend catch 3 with a drowned ant, 0 on top.
A dry dropper might work in slack water..
And of course, in bigger water it's worm time.
They have also started chasing streamers!!!!!!
River is still in the grass edges, and very pushy! Don't even get in the water for best results.
Pick a side and fish it.
Fishing near shore, soft water, but as flows move up/down, the fish are moving more.
Don't just hit the prime lye. Fishing pressure will make them take a less obvious spot (true here all year).
They've been hanging out farther downstream from riffles, not up in fast water.
A switch rod would help to reach out and touch them.
The warden is about, pinch those barbs!!!!
The fish are there, and have gotten strong in these flows.
    Hope you all hook up.

    Jim

Thought I'd bump this post up because the last few days of June are looking good.

(Except today the 29th, big rain last night rivers brown and big! Wait a day, or so, to let it stabilize.)

Fishing is picking up as flows come down and temps come up.
Little creeks are flowing clearer and feisty fish are the rule.
Lakes are full and fishy. All have been stocked.
I am saddened to report MOSQUITOS have arrived, bring your bug stuff!
    Have fun, wade carefully.........

    Jim
