3wt Bass
Hit up a small pond with Phil on Saturday. This pond's got a big population of small LMB as well as a some Green Sunfish.
There's a moderate but very scenic walk into pond, but look at what you get when you arrive.
It's a small pond, barely enough room for two tubes.
Conditions where great, for the fish. Dark overcast with almost constant rain.
Here's Phil setting up, the rain has just started.
Started hitting them almost immediately, had 2 released before Phil even got in the water. We only used topwater flies all afternoon. Size 8 Little Bass Frogs and Hopper Poppers were the ticket. Great blow-ups for such small bass. The biggest I've seen were about a pound, maybe they'll get bigger with time, maybe not. I used a 3wt and it was a blast.
Phil decided to wean himself off of his lucky shorts but it took a while to shake that jinx off. Once he was free of it he started hitting them regularly also.
Here's the only fish pic I took, obviously there's more to fishing this pond than the size of the fish.
After about 3 hrs of non-stop rain the skies finally parted for some beautiful scenery.
The fish are in the flooded grass. On one cast I let my frog splat just inside the grass edge and watched as a fish moved the grass stems coming in for the kill. What a rush.
I was getting cold by the time we left so the walk back to the truck was a welcome warm up. Then a beer and bite to eat before the drive back.
Good times indeed.

Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.
