Default Lower Sacramento River Guide Trip Reports & Klamath Flows

It's official, the Lower Sacramento River turned silly good this week as several of our guests enjoyed some of the best fishing and catching of their lives! Consider this your complimentary notice to get here now.

The hatches were not prolific but it didn't seem to matter much as the fish were on the grab. We saw a fair number of Pink Alberts (Epeorus) midday with a few spring caddis before and some PMD's, March Browns and summer caddis later in the day. Fish continued to take rubberlegs and egg patterns as well. With the low flows (no scheduled increase at this time) many of the fish seemed to be podded up and where we found one there were often more, with the bite at times becoming unbelievable with one big Rainbow after another. We even had occasions to find some fish sipping dries in the flats and tailouts.

The Upper Sac though very high has some fishable water. We've been out on a few occasions and found willing fish, mostly podded in the larger runs. Some sparse hatches are hit and miss for dry fly fishing. It's mostly been a deep water nymphing affair with Legs, eggs, and small mayfly nymphs.

Flows on the Klamath remain about twice the norm and fishing has been poor. Flows are scheduled to be dropped to around 3,000 cfs or less on May 1st but we are in a wait and see mode at this time.
