"We're very pleased with the settlement," said Michael Boccadoro, a spokesman for the coalition. "We believe it's going to lead to a very scientific approach to resolving one of the important stressors in the Delta."

"We're looking forward to working with the coalition and other interest groups to get a proposal together," said Jordan Traverso, a Fish and Game spokeswoman.

Yep - this was a crappy deal indeed. Hopefully we can be more effective at the Fish & Game Commission. What's funny is, the "settlement sets a timetable for Fish and Game to change the size and number of striped bass that anglers can keep" - but it doesn't specify how .

    Cool

This is a much more honest article about it: http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.d...22/-1/a_news14
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    KEY POINTS
"The settlement requires the state to draft new rules, likely increasing the number of stripers that fishermen can catch. The rules would still have to be approved by the state Fish and Game Commission."

"Stripers, after all, have already declined in number - along with the native fish they're known to consume."

"Striped bass and salmon have coexisted for 125 years until the massive water diversions," said John Banks, a Stockton fisherman and longtime member of the California Striped Bass Association.

"We had (the lawsuit) won," Banks said. "We had the numbers on our side."

"It gives the water users an avenue to pursue new regulations on stripers but does not guarantee them, the judge said."

You can bet I will be at the Fish & Game Commission for this!
