Default Northern California Fishing Guide Trip Reports

Daytime temps in the shadow of Shasta have turned unseasonably warm, into the 50's and even 60's which has melted the heavy snowfall we experienced in December. Our guests have enjoyed some sunshine and spectacular days fishing on our local rivers including several folk's best day of steelheading ever. While blue bird days in winter are to be savored, the conditions created a few days when the fishing was good but the catching was not as stellar as we might have liked.

Flows on the Klamath, Trinity and Upper Sac have stabilized close to their seasonal norms and the Lower Sac is scheduled to drop to 4,000 cfs from Keswick on January 29th. The fishing for half pounders and small adults on the Klamath has been consistently fair to good with the vast majority of fish coming on egg patterns. Fishing on the Lower Sac has varied considerably with a mixed bite on eggs an small nymphs, while the Trinity remains trying, mostly due to a lack of fish. Several fish on the Trinity and Lower Sac this season have been quite memorable on the other hand.

Some fresh fish have arrived on the Klamath and Trinity and with a weak front forecast for the weekend, and a return to sunny days next week we hope and expect for the fishing, as well as the catching, to consistently improve.

We hosted a number of groups in the past few weeks, mostly on the Klamath and Trinity with a few folks enjoying springtime conditions on the Lower Sac. We also have enjoyed taking some personal time to sample our local rivers including some trophy trout on the Upper and Lower Sac and swung a few fish up on the Klamath River with switch rods.

For a full report with pics, check out our most recent post. Drop us a line if you are headed to the shadow of Shasta, we would enjoy arranging a trip for you with one of our great local guides. If you prefer to fish on your own, we are more than pleased to share all we can, just drop us a line!
