    Default Pensacola in May, 2010

My buddy Eric Lucas and I are returning to Pensacola in mid May, hoping to do battle off shore. We went last year and did battle with big red and mangrove snappers, AJ's, cobia, and sharks. If the weather holds we will bust out a few miles further and try to find some weed lines or wrecks. It was really cool fishing. Sometimes we had 30-50 (or more) fish swirling in our chum slick in 60 - 100 feet of water. They were picking chum off the surface and as it slowly sank down. Nothing less than a ten weight is appropriate here. I used my studly Scott Heliply #15 wt. and got my azz handed to me more than once! Here are a couple pix for your enjoyment!

    Default Line Class record

Eric's snapper weighed about 11 pounds, and would have been a new 16# line class record. Unfortunately, snapper season had not opened yet, so all were returned to continue growing!

    Nice fish , Brett !!

Having fished Pargo (Snappers) off the beach near/in rocks .... it's pretty fearsome how strong they are - if they want to go , they go . Hard to stop 'em ....

It is amazing how hard those fish tug! I never saw my backing. We were fishing 100' of water, and they would charge straight to the bottom. Wrap me in a rock or wreck, and break my 40# fluoro leader. We will see what happens this May!
