    Default 3/23/11 update

To date I have recorded 14'8" of snow and 25.33 inches of precip here at Fort Baiocchi, I live seven miles from Lake Davis. Last year we got 22" of precip and the lake came up 4 feet or more. It's dumping right now and will be through the weekend. This is really getting crazy you guys!

Hey Jon thats a lot of rain/snow, with all that water Davis Lake should amost be full this year. I think the old weed beds from last year are going to be under a lot of water. I also think those damsels are going to have a long swim, or a long craw across open water this June. They have to craw out of the water to complete there life cycle, and with all that new water to fish its going to be a new ball game for this year. The GBF ask Jon to do a presentation for our fly club at Davis Lake this June 11, and hopefully we will have it figured out for the damsel party.

We need warm weather In June to kick start the damsel migration, and if the lake comes up enough all those willows will be in water and that is prime damsel hatching habitat. I have a feeling this fishing season will be one to remember for a long time!

Again, I reiterate via the photo from a full Lake Davis circa 1996.....

Lake Davis changes dramatically at every 5K acre foot interval.... ask those that have practically run aground in their boats out in the middle of the lake! "Whoa! that bar wasn't there last weekend?!"

If you have not been fortunate to have fished the lake at full pool, then you have not been truly able to fully appreciate all the fishing areas that the lake offers....

At full pool, you can go there and fish every day for a week in the spring (from a boat) and not have to fish the same productive location twice.

With Oroville spilling over and San Luis full to the brim, Lake Davis should be allowed to fill completely this spring.

Yey it would be nice to launch a boat at Lightning tree boat ramp, lets hope they open the ramp up.

It's all good, I've yet to crack. So as of today 3/25, 18 feet of snow since Oct. 1st and 26.05 inches of precip. When you have a winter like this you'll be stoked if you own a 13 or 11 HP Honda - They dominate.
