    Default Tomales

Soooooo....whats the deal with tomales bay fishing? I have a 15ft aluminum jet sled that i use in the Delta....I live in Saint Helena and am curious about the opportunities in the bay there. Can anybody give me a run down on times of year, technique etc? if anybody wants to show me around i am happy to bring the boat and beer. thanks in advance!!!

At the mouth of Tomales Bay is Lawson's Landing where you can have them launch your boat from the beach inside the mouth of the bay.

Some of the guys that work there at the store and boat repair really know the fishing well.

If you get in there to the camping area and down to the store you can ask for Willie for some good feedback on the local fishing.

Summer and fall are the best time to fish there.

There are surf perch, flounder/halibut, jack smelt, salmon and off shore tuna.

Also crabbing and abalone diving in that area. Great White Sharks too.

With your boat you could go way up into the bay where it is sandy and shallow. You might go outside the mouth of the bay with your boat on very calm days.

In a smaller boat we mostly fish right at the mouth of the bay on an incoming tide for halibut.

For local fly fishing knowledge in that area, especially for the Russian River, I would try to get to the Western Sport Shop in Santa Rosa and talk with Carlo there.
