Can some of you get this message posted around on any other fly fishing message boards or your fly fishing clubs web site or news letter?

    Thanks

    An Evening with THOMAS McGUANE
    Author and Director
    In conversation with Pam Houston

(Sacramento, CA) – California Lectures presents An Evening with Thomas McGuane on November 3, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at the Crest Theatre in downtown Sacramento. McGuane will be in conversation with Pam Houston, discussing his latest book, Driving on the Rim, as well as his work in literature, nature, and film.

Thomas McGuane is an author, director, screenwriter, and avid outdoorsman. His award-winning body of work includes ten novels, three works of non-fiction, and two collections of short stories. His writing masterfully explores the depths of human relationships from Michigan to the Florida Keys, to the plains of Montana and the American West. McGuane’s novel, The Bushwhacked Piano, won the Rosenthal Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and his novel, Ninety-Two in the Shade was nominated for a National Book Award. McGuane later wrote and directed the successful film adaptation of Ninety-Two in the Shade starring Peter Fonda. He is a recipient of the Wallace Stegner Award and a member of the American Academy of Arts & Letters.

An avid outdoorsman and Fly Rod & Reel Magazine’s 2010 Angler of the Year, McGuane infuses his works with a rich appreciation for the natural world and outdoor sport. He has written several non-fiction works focused on the outdoors including The Longest Silence and Upstream: Fly Fishing in the American Northwest. McGuane’s latest novel, Driving on the Rim, returns to one of his favorite settings, the picturesque Montana landscape, and tells the story of a small town doctor whose ill-advised decision to try to cover up an old friend's suicide attempt leads to dire consequences when she later dies from her injuries.

Pam Houston is the author of Cowboys Are My Weakness, Waltzing the Cat, and A Little More About Me. Her stories have been selected for the Best American Short Stories of Century, the O. Henry Awards, and the Pushcart Prize. She is the director of creative writing at UC Davis and lives in Colorado near the headwaters of the Rio Grande.
