    Default Yellowstone and beyond

Finally got to take a 2 week trip so Kathy and I packed up the RV and headed for Heber Utah first. Camped next to the middle fork of the Provo and got spanked by that water. Saw so monster browns well over 24" follow my fly and turn away every time. Fish were jumping everywhere, it was rather humiliating. So I headed over to the Weber with a guide looking for some hungry fish. Had some luck with good size whitefish and my personal biggest brown taking from a stream. We then headed to Yellowstone to see some of the sights and do a little fishing. Yellowstone is a beautiful place with more water than I could imagine. You could spend months there and still no fish all the water. I got some small browns on the Gibbons and got skunked on the Madison. The park is so big with so many things to see that I got in minimal fishing time, but that is ok, the trip was for the both of us. Saw tons of buffalo and plenty of elk. At a few times the buffalo was so close you could smell them. Saw a Grey and black wolf which was a special treat, the only bear was a mother with 2 cubs on the other side of the river. After being in Yellowstone for 5 days we headed to Grand Teton. The Grand Teton is a sight that must be seen in person, it is huge and beautiful. I was able to get a couple cutthroats on the Snake River, that was a special bonus to my trip. I fished Jenny Lake at the base of Grand Teton, I float tubed around for no fish. I was told the cutts and lake trout were real deep now, oh well the views were to die for.

What a great trip, I am having a hard time coming back to normal life now, I want to retire and keep on going to new places. If you have never been to Yellowstone I highly recommend it and it is a place I plan on going back but leave yourself plenty of time, it is big and takes forever to get from one location to another. Buffalo like to walk down the middle of the road and take their time. It can take for ever for people to just go around and pass the buffalo. Oh yeah and they smell bad.

Thanks Scott! I love Yellowstone. I've always wanted to visit in the fall. Might get the chance next year if my wife joins me in retirement! How were the crowds?

September is the time to go to beat the crowds. I can not imagine what Yellowstone would be like with crowds, I would probably not had liked it as much. The area is beautiful and we have hundreds of photos we took. We hope to go back in 5 or so years again, next time we will stay in the park for camping, this time we stayed in West Yellowstone which is only 4 blocks from the entry. But going in and out everyday made for longer days. And while you are there you have to go down to Grand Teton, those peaks need to be seen with your own eyes.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

We take our cats with us on all camping trips, we bought the rv so we could take them with us. Unfortunately we had to put down the boy a week before we left, Psycho had been with us for 14 years. I am still having a real hard time dealing with him not being around. Kathy and I have been together for 16 years so Psycho had been with us from almost the very start. Poppy in the picture is number 3 we rescued 6 years ago and Patches who we got with Psycho 14 years ago was in the RV, she gets a little scared outside so she does not come out to often.
