    Default Finally, I got one........

After fishing the Lower American River for days for Half-pounder Steelhead without catching anything I luckily got invited to go fish last Tuesday with veteran Northwest Steelhead guide Mike McCune.

Mike gave me lots of help with my Spey casting which really helped.

I was using one of Mike's "Pork Rinds" which is in this case an olive rabbit strip fly on a sink-tip.

The fish was not big but it was very hot for it's size.

I was using Mike's Sage Z-Axis 12'6" #5 Spey rod with a Rio Skagit Short head and a new Rio MOW sink-tip. It had an old Hardy St. George fly reel on it which made a lovely sound as the fish cartwheeled downstream making several big jumps.

    I was soooooo happy.....

    Thanks Mike.

Glad you got into fish, Bill. I bet it makes it easier to listen all those fish tales when you're stuck in the shop.

You cheated Bill, thats not the American. Also, I have been warned of talking about the pork rind in public, "a good magician never reveals his secrets".

Congrats on a nice fish Bill.

Nice fish! Did you call in sick or did the boss give you the day off?
