Caught this throwing for striper this evening, a 19" keeper!
Sorry for the bad pic but until I get a new camera the cell phone has to do and I didn't want to take the fish out of water.

Nice trout Jeff~
Had you dangled that lil morsel at the end of your tippet for a lil while longer... you might very well have encountered a monster class fish of the target species.
But that would be cheatin'
Congrats!

Jim Christensen caught a 8-9 pound Steelhead once on a Striper streamer in the Lower American River.

Lol Mark... I've heard stories of people losing steelies to stripes. I was surprised because I don't throw little flies but that fish inhaled it. It was clipped too but was very healthy looking. Also another reason I like the TMC 8089 as it's a fairly lightwire hook. I would've tried to get a better pic that fish would not hold still and as soon as I grabbed the fly it wiggled off and was gone in less than a second.
On a side note, my brother was fishing in Wyoming I believe and outdid me with 4 fish over 21"..... One fish was 26" but of course they forgot the camera in the car so he has a pic on his phone.

Dang! I was trying to catch stripers like that all fall and winter. Guess I had technique issues! Maybe I'm a little confused.
Good one Jeff! Yesterday was the opposite for me. I was trying for halfpounders and caught a couple of small stripers.
I got this one a couple of weeks ago on the American
Nice fish guppy, were you fishing for em and is that a wild fish (just curious)?
Jeff, I hate when that happens too.... one year I was fishing in November hoping for a steelie on a streamer, got smashed good, strong fight..... I was so disapointed.... 16" striper late in the season... Were they taking nymphs or were you swinging bigger flies?
With the flows the way they've been I'm not surprised really, river is still on the cold side and I've been seeing a lot of adipose fins rising except not on that fish I caught...

I was fishing for halfpounders using a Dirty Bird but got to a spot where I thought there might be shad so I tied on a Bloody Maria and caught the first striper. I saw a big boy (25-30 lbs) slowly cruise by me a couple of times so I tied on a clouser and got the second small striper.
