    Default Northern California Fishing Report

We have just posted our latest trip reports for the McCloud, Upper & Lower Sac, Pit, Klamath, Hat Creek and Fall River.

Good hatches on the Fall River continue to consistently come off but fishing pressure has been heavy and the fish are getting fussy. Light tippets, exact presentations and accurate imitations fish haven't seen will still turn the trick. The Hex hatch is in full swing on the Lower River with a few bugs spotted all the way up to the Circle 7 Ranch.

The Pit is fishing well but again is suffering from heavy pressure because the McCloud and Upper Sac are still marginal. The Upper Sac has come down a couple hundred cfs per day for a few days but is still well above 1,000 cfs. The McCloud visibility has increased from less than a foot to about two feet at Ah Di Na making nymphing and streamers an option but dry fly fishing is awfully tough.

Hat Creek has had some good dry fly fishing but mostly for smaller fish. The Upper Klamath is cooked. Water temps are above 66 degrees and though good fish can be caught on the Salmonflies that remain, having Rainbows and Steelhead survive after release at these temps is doubtful at best.

When flows on the Lower Sac are stable (they have been OK this week) the fishing has been hot. Unfortunately you need to be willing to suffer a bit for these big trophy 'bows because the thermometer has been hovering around 100 degrees.
