Small Outboard for Bays

Call me stupid, maybe you'll save my life.

I want to chase Halibut in the bays. I have an 8 ft Metalhead. Obviously Id ONLY go out on a calm day.

What do you think the MINIMUM HP rating I should use would be to stay away from faster currents and not get sucked out to sea?

Buy the most horsepower you can afford up to the maximum horsepower rating for your pram. I've never heard any one say, gee I have too much HP to safely get me out of trouble! When you want the ponies, you need them now! All boats are required to have the maximum load and horsepower ratings on the hull of the boat some where.
