At Kiene's we are selling (or people are buying) mostly 13'+#7 and 12'6"#6 in 4 piece Spey rods. We sell a few #8 and few #5 too. For us the #9 and 10 line two-hand rod sales are non-existent but we do not sell to Europe where they would use the longer, heavier rods.

The most popular Switch rods are 10'6" to 11' long in 4 piece. #6 or #6/7 and #7 or #7/8 are our top sellers.

This is merely factual data from our shop in Nor Cal.

Two-handed rods in Nor Cal and Oregon seem to be getting shorter and lighter all the time.

We still have people using 15' heavier rods for competition and we have others like local Steelhead veteran Rick Jorgensen using as small 11' 6" #3 ARC Trout Speys too.

Now we are seeing a trend towards trout Spey with people looking for Ultra-Lite two-handed rods for trout.

Two-handed veterans like Bob Meiser, Gary Anderson and John & Amy Hazel are leading in this area of shorter, very light line two-handed rods.

This is a new frontier that will become more common as the technology catches up with popular demand.

Lines for these lighter rods are still very much in the developmental stage. The new Wulff Ambush line is being promoted by Deschutes Anger for lighter trout two-hand rods.

Most feel a 13'+ #7 is probably the middle of the road now for a Spey rod plus they feel it is an easy size to learn two-handed casting skills with.
