Had a nice long visit at the shop with Craig who is a retired school teacher living in Mt Shasta and founder of Shasta Trout guide group.

We learned that he does guide the stretch of the Klamath River above Interstate 5 with a drift boat swinging flies on smaller Spey and Switch rods.

He says this stretch of river fishes well from October through June but is subject to a green algae situation so in July, August and September. He does not fish it because it is toxic to fish at that time.

Craig says he has lots of smaller two-handed rods for his clients to use.

I am recommending that you first get a lesson in casting two-handed rods with Jeff Putnam here on the lower American River, then go up and get some two-handed fishing help from Craig.

Craig has a good article on this piece of water in the February issue of the Cal Fly Fisher.
