Steelheading on the Klamath continues to be exceptional despite recent record low temperatures. We have seen several big fish lately with the bulk of the hatchery fish and winter runs beginning to show, the peak of the season is still ahead. The cold temps have also made the Upper Sacramento River a midday affair with very low flows, easy wading and a few straggling October Caddis along with hatches of Blue Wing Olives. It is not a numbers game this time of the year but trophy time, most fish are in the teens with an occasional fish over 20". While the egg bite on the Lower Sacramento River is not what it has been in previous seasons very good hatches of Blue Wing Olives and a few Caddis have kept the big trophy 'bows on the grab.
