I would get down there mid-week for the next few weeks after this big derby and planting.

Here at our shop Chuck Campana has fished it for many years in the winter for the trout.

He uses mostly a floating line, 15 foot total leader to 4x Grandmax fluorocarbon tippet.

For commercial flies Chuck recommends a #12 Olive Woolly Bugger or Prince Nymph.

The fish are usually in small pods so trolling or fishing anywhere is not always successful.

If you have a small boat with an electric and/oars with two anchors you can stand it it with Polarized glasses and spot the pods of fish. You can also see the fish rising if it is smooth and quiet.

Chuck says CA DF&G will be planting it every other week now through the winter too.

It is a very nice place to fish with very clear water.

I guess you could fish Rancho Seco all winter for trout.........
